About kayla murphy, lpc, lmhc
Hi! My name is Kayla Murphy, and I am a Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Office Manager at the group private practice, Anchor Therapy. We are located in downtown Hoboken, New Jersey, and also provide flexible therapy using video platforms from the comfort of your home. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Certified School Psychologist. I can work with clients from both New York and New Jersey. Currently, I am in school for my doctorate in Clinical and School Psychology at Kean University. I have extensive experience working with children of all ages, teens, young adults, adults, and families.
Children today are facing more challenges than ever. The demands of school, friendships, social media, and life changes can take a toll on mental health. You might be seeing changes in your child or teen like irritability, worry, self-esteem, sleep issues, sadness, trauma, behavioral issues, lack of concentration, lack of motivation, and aggression. Parenting can be overwhelming, and you are yearning for your child's success. Children and teens might be feeling misunderstood; trust could be broken, and the family dynamic could be shaken up. Our goal is to improve your child's emotional well-being by increasing their coping skills in all aspects of life while also providing support for you as the parent.
I have received extensive training working with young children and teens, using Play Therapy, CBT, and Mindfulness. I also specialize in helping adults while using CBT, Psychodynamic, Person-Centered and Solution-Focused modalities. My clinical skills were developed through my schooling at Loyola University Maryland and work at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
While I treat children and teens, I also specialize in helping young adults and adults with anxiety, depression, life changes, relationship issues, trauma, grief, OCD, school issues, work stressors, perinatal and postpartum depression/anxiety and communication. Together we will develop a plan that will work best for you to achieve your therapeutic goals. I am here to offer the support that is needed, and by using a variety of modalities, I will tailor each session to meet any individual's needs.
Here are some fun facts about me - I am originally from Queens, New York, and lived in Baltimore for a few years. I currently live in Jersey City, and I enjoy exploring all the restaurants Jersey City and Hoboken have to offer! In my free time, I love baking, painting, reading, spending time with friends/family, and traveling. Dancing, face/hair masks, and reading are my favorite versions of self-care, which helps me keep a healthy work-life balance.

What the next steps would look like…
The next step, if you feel I could be a good fit to help you or your loved one, would be to reach out to our intake coordinator Victoria by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. Victoria will give you all the information you need to know when setting up an appointment and to make sure you’re a good fit with the therapist you’re requesting. When reaching out, please explain a little bit about yourself (or who you want to bring in for therapy) and what you’re looking for help with. We would then discuss your availability to find a time to schedule your intake session.
You have the option of coming in-person for sessions or doing online therapy (video/phone sessions). I have availability not only during the day, but also on evenings and weekends. While every person and family are different, I conduct an intake assessment in which we will discuss your struggles, your goals for therapy, and your history. If you are bringing in a child or teen who is under 18 years old then I will need a parent or guardian present and get some background information from you as well. This helps me get a full picture of who you are and how I can best help you or your child. You also may find it helpful to attend the intake session without your child so that you can speak openly about your concerns.
Honestly the hardest part of starting therapy is finding a therapist who’s available and a good fit. That’s why I try to explain here how I work with my clients. If this seems like a good fit then feel free to reach out! Our intake coordinator, Victoria, will get back to every client who reaches out through the form on our website. If Victoria finds that we are not a good fit for whatever reason, then she will see if there’s another therapist at Anchor Therapy who can help you or she will direct you to another professional in the area who can best help you.
Please feel free to contact our intake coordinator Victoria and we can start the process of helping you or your loved one feel better soon.
